I wish I had a pound for every time someone said to me--"I didn't know what Age Discrimination was until it happened to me!" The assumption is "I will be the exception--it won't happen to me, why should it anyway, I'm only 45!".
When it does hit you, it is usually a dreadful shock. We all live within a comfort zone and often that comfort zone says to you ' I have experience, I am well trained, I am educated and my skills will always be in demand.'
When that comfort zone fails you, what do you do--apart from getting angry?

The first thing you should do is not panic. It helps a little to know there are 'millions' just like you. You are definitely not on your own. Your first practical step is to read everything that we have produced over the years; then at least you are not ignorant of why these things are happening to you.
The thing you shouldn't do is lose your nerve. YOU are not being victimised. Don't get in a state--you are not on your own and you can work your way out of it.
Especially, don't try to hide your problems from the family, it will lead to huge problems later if you do. Get them all 'involved' with your problem, after all you never hesitate to get involved in theirs do you!
Don't hang about feeling sorry for yourself; get on with finding another job immediately--however just remember that statistically it is likely to take you longer than you think.
Whilst re-arranging your family finances, start to get a realistic view of your future on paper. Get a plan of action going. Above all after 45 you must recognise that getting another job like your old one is rare. You need to think 'diversification' - what else can I do? - What else can you do? -
Get in touch and join CAADE--the sooner the better. If 'we' can't help you, and that’s rare, 'we know a man who can'. Join CAADE and then we can see that you get for starters -
