Most Voluntary Sector Teams like CAADE's tend to change the Management Squad quite often. CAADE is an exception to the rule. It's hard to get in - and it's hard to get out!
When we first organised in 1988, our very first Patron was Baroness Norah Phillips, one of the very few Parliamentarians who had a passion about the ADE issue then. When sadly she died in 1994, her place was taken by Lord Braine of Wheatley, probably better known as Sir Bernard Braine, father of the House of Commons before Sir Ted Heath. When Lord Braine died four years ago, Sir Fergus Montgomery took his place as Patron and has been with us for over fifteen years.. These changes unfortunately forced upon us.
Founders Bernice and Philip Walker manage affairs on a day to day basis. Philip who has over twenty years experience in the Voluntary Sector, is an experienced writer and broadcaster on age issues and is considered by many to be the Godfather of the modern ADE Campaign. Bernice on the other hand was a Senior Administrative Officer with the UKAEA for most of her working life and is a brilliant administrator. In the last year the management team has been reinforced by the election of Stephen Leggett, a Business Consultant who essentially is the voice of 'New' CAADE.
CAADE has Seven Trustees:
- Aside from Philip and Bernice,
- Chris Sewell M.A. (Oxon). M.Phil., now retired, has been in Teaching most of his working life and is a well known Union Activist.
- Brian Austin an IT Specialist with fifteen Computer advice books to his name.
- Mike Walker is a Company Director working in the field of Age Audits amongst other things.
- Anne Mike’s wife has proved a big help with her knowledge of Accounting. She works full time in a Senior position with United Utilities.
- Colin Utteridge is a Counsellor and Coach with a hobby of rock climbing.a skill that proves useful in our fundraising.
In the engine room with Philip and Bernice are Rick Powell, Brian Austin, Graham Clarke and Mike Walker. Rick, an experienced Insurance Underwriter, set up and runs SCAADE, the Scottish Campaign. Rick suffered very badly from age discrimination but has overcome his difficulties and is now coping very well. His forte is the media, in which he performs as if he'd been in it all his life. Brian Austin has naturally and willingly fitted in the slot as CAADE's Technical Director. Graham Clarke is our Senior Coach and Trainer with the part time help of Mike Walker is developing the Training arm of CAADE. With an average age of 54 we are consatntly looking for younger blood. But at least we practice what we preach.
CAADE is also fortunate enough to have gained many friends and advisors over the years who can be called upon for expertise whenever it is needed.
Altogether a great team who get on well and often perform out of their socks! As we say it’s hard to get into CAADE - and probably even harder to get out!.
